I remember

I've seen the posts on Facebook this morning with the date....11-18-99. The year the Aggie Bonfire fell, and it got me thinking back to 12 years ago. I was a junior in high school with plans to attend A&M University. My dad has been an Aggie supporter my whole life and I just knew that's where I wanted to go. I was going to major in psychology. I had some friends from youth group that were already at A&M and had plans to head up to there to experience the Aggie Bonfire. So you can only imagine my shock (like many others) when I got the word that the bonfire fell. It was heartbreaking to hear of the students who lost their lives that day. I was also in awe of how the Aggie community rallied together and held their heads high as they remembered/honored their fallen friends.

My life took a different turn my senior year as I decided to pursue a career in dance and thus turned my attention to SWT (now Texas State). I may not be an Aggie, but I will always respect how they handled themselves in a time of tragedy. They taught us all how to respect tradition and honor the fallen. Today my heart is with my Aggie friends. I too will never forget!

Thanks for this, Aubs! I remember how chilling it was that morning as I watched the news from my apartment, and how somber the campus was for the days following. It's weird how that time stands out as being both tragic and beautiful at the same time. I pray that God is with the friends and families of the 12 as they look back!

I remember every single detail about that day. My roommate and I were helping with bonfire (though not much since we were fish) and my mom was in a panic when she heard about it on the news. And the tragedy did turn into something amazing.

Thanks for remembering!
