Lyla Lately

I realized I have not posted about what Lyla is up to these days. I feel like she is growing right before our eyes. She must have grown at least 2 inches since November. All of her jambes and pants are getting to short. It's crazy. She is also gaining in vocabulary and understanding daily. She is reasoning with us which makes life interesting. Lyla loves dance class! She just eats it up and can't wait until the next week. I'm so excited that I have Monday off this coming week and finally get to go watch her. I just hope I'm not a distraction. Lyla also still loves to sing! She has started making up her own songs and playing her own "guitar" (Daddy's mandolin). Andy and I love that she shares in both our artsy passion.

Lyla has been pull up free for about the last 10 days, and that is so wonderful. Daddy laid down the law by hiding the pull ups while I was at my annual Dance Educators convention in Houston. She is always so proud that she can go potty by herself. Life is already easier!

Lyla's imagination is soaring. She loves to play dress up, cook and play with her imaginary babies. She has a group of babies; no names, and we aren't sure how many; that she talks to ALL.THE.TIME! She will call for her babies, discipline her babies, and be sad when she can't find them. Over the Christmas break she had a "black baby" that wouldn't listen and Mimi had to tell "black baby" to sit down. It was hilarious. I don't know where she got the idea of a black baby from and what exactly she sees in her head when she sees a "black baby", but it was cute. Lyla also loves to paint her nails, and anyone else's for that matter. She loves to dress herself. It usually means she wears some interesting outfits, but it's her style and she's proud, so I'm learning to embrace it. She is all girl and I love it!

My mom says she talks about sisters all of the time at her house, but I don't hear much about it at home. She did tell me the other day that Aunt Auti is mommy's sister. I'm thinking she is starting to want a sister because all of her little girl friends have sisters. Hmmm....

Speaking of girl friends. Lyla has two little friends, Eden and Lily, that she has playmates with. She loves them! She talks about them all the time. It is so good for her to have other companions to play with. This past Friday (yesterday) Eden and Lily came to our house. I believe Lyla ended up getting both girls in trouble. Eden for jumping on the bed....something we don't mind, but isn't allowed at Eden's house. And Lily and Lyla snuck into her room with nail polish and got it all over! Oh the joys of silly girls!

Lyla is still a momma's girl. When I'm home I'm all she wants. We had a great time during the two week vacation for Christmas. I loved getting to spend time with her. Of course school started back up for me and immediately we started having a hard time at bedtime again. I think she gets up so much because she wants to make sure I'm still home. She certainly is my sweet girl and melts my heart.

Today (Saturday) was a big day for Lyla. She got her first haircut. I've put if off for so long for fear that I would lose her curls. We settled for only taking off 3 inches (daddy wanted more) which I think was enough to get rid of all the tangles, but enough to keep some curls. Maybe in the spring we'll go a little shorter. Anyway, she did such a great job. She was so excited even though I don't think she had any clue what a haircut was. She sat in the chair and was very quiet and good. Andy and I were so proud of our big girl!
