Big Girl Bed

Last Tuesday morning Andy and I converted Lyla's crib into a "big girl bed." Meaning he took the front off and we put up a bed railing to keep her from rolling out. We've been discussing this for a while. We figured with her potty training she would eventually need to be a able to get out of bed at night if need be. I wanted to make the switch over the summer while I am home and not waking up to a 5:00AM alarm clock. We were prepared for hard/long nights for the first few weeks as Lyla learned how to deal with her new found freedom.

Lyla was in the room with us as we made the change. She had a blast climbing on and off her bed before we put the railing up. She continued to play afterwards and figured out how to climb up and down in the little space she had. Our first attempt in the big girl bed was nap time. And guess what.....

We had no issues!!! I told her she was going to sleep in her big girl bed, read a book, put her in bed and sang her "night-night" song. She didn't cry, fight, or play. She was asleep within minutes. This has continued with every nap and bedtime since. (Minus two nap times where she fell asleep in the car first and wouldn't go back to sleep). We have been so pleasantly surprised! I guess she was more ready for a big girl bed than I thought.

My mom said I was the same way. I would fight at every bed time, throw things, scream and cry forever before falling asleep. She moved my crib mattress on the floor and I never had an issue again. Yes, I do find that Lyla is more like me every day!!!
