My dear friend Curtis has owned Tank for 4 years. Andy and I have always loved Tank and have begged him to breed Tank so that we could have a puppy. Obviously that never happened. Last week Curtis called me and asked if we would like to take Tank, permanently. Curtis is a Navy Seal and will be overseas for a year. His wife did not want to keep up with Tank and their 3 year old son. So after some discussion, Andy and I decided to take Tank. We have wanted a big dog for a while and love that Tank came to us potty trained and house broken.
It's been a week and we are loving him. Tank is the sweetest big dog ever. He doesn't bother Lyla. He licked her feet when he first met her, but other than that, he lets her do her thing. He will look at us when she cries like, "hello, are ya'll going to do something?"
The hardest part has been the sadness that Tank has been feeling. Curtis was his only owner. Tank has moped around the house for a week. It took 3 days for him to eat. It makes me so sad, but he is adjusting. He has latched on to Andy big time. He follows Andy every where and cries when he leaves. Let me just tell you what a 150lb dog cry sounds like. Can you say dinosaur? It's hilarious, and kind of annoying, but I think it will pass.
The only other hard thing is knowing that Tank doesn't have a long life expectancy. Most Great Danes are about 10 years, so we only have about 6 years left with him. But we will enjoy every moment. He is a wonderful addition to our life.
He does continue to shrink our house though. The boy is as big as my kitchen table!
